FERTILIZERS LIMITED (NFL)
National Fertilizers
Limited (NFL) was incorporated on 23-08-1974 for
setting up two fertilizer plants, one at Bhatinda
in the State of Punjab and another at Panipat
in the state of Haryana , with LSHS as feed stock,
and each having urea production capacity of 5.11
lakh tone per annum. The Bhatinda plant was commissioned
on Ist October, 1979 and Panipat Plant on Ist
September, 1979. Subsequently, upon reorganisation
of the Fertilizer Corporation of India, Nangal
unit was transferred to NFL on Ist April, 1978.
NFL commissioned the gas based urea plant with
an annual capacity of 7.26 lakh MT at Vijaipur
plant has been doubled on commissioning of its
expansion unit in March, 1997.
As on 31st
March, 1998 the company had an authorised capital
of Rs.500 crore and subscribed and paid up capital
of Rs.490.58 crore. With the completion of Vijaipur
Expansion Project, the installed capacity of NFL
has increased from 10,35,880 tones of Nitrogen
to 13,659,840 tones of Nitrogen w.e.f. 31st
March, 1997. A part from fertilizer the Company
also produces number of industrial products like
Methanol, sodium nitrite & nitrate, ammonium
nitrate, sulphur, Bio-fertilizers etc, besides
heavy water.

PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE 1997-98
During 1997-98,
the aggregate production from NFL plants as 15.60
lakh tones 'N2' against the target of 14.36
lakh tones. The aggregate capacity utilisation
for the year was 110.58% without Industrial N2
and 13.87% with Industrial N2.
1998-99
(April to October )
The aggregate
production from April, 1998 to October, 1998 was
8.47 lakhl tones of "N2" against the
annual target of 14.80 lakh tones of 'N2".

of production during 1998-99 and 1999-2000 together
with the details of capacity utilisation are given
in Statement-II.

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE
During 1997-98,
the company earned a pre-tax profit of Rs.236.17
crore against the budgeted profit of Rs.68.78
crore. Post-tax profit during the year was Rs.189.01
crore. The main reasons for higher profit are
due to record production achieved during the year
and also receipt of Rs.108.00 crore towards subsidy
arrears relating to earlier periods.
